If I may, it was not impossible to foresee this. The film Ali did with van Gogh set the tone, with Zalm there as an advisor. Two very brief points. Ali was in the VVD when the film was made and that party was in a coalition government. The extraordinary danger of politicians(like Wilders) making a film against a minority, something that has not ... Afficher davantageoccured since WW2.
If we read Emma Goldman's autobiography, we discover she was practically tortured by her patriarchal father, but she did not start a war against Judaism, rather she linked up with the universal, unlike Ali, who won a great deal of sympathy because of her trials and tribulations and started a war against Islam. Politicians do not have freedom of speech, their words and actions are potential bullets; they have only responsibility.

I have seen Ali's film, Judith, but not Wilder's, although I have read accounts of it in the newspapers and elsewhere. Should I see it? Would it help my analysis or understanding?

@Elliott, First and foremost, I don't think it's possible to understand either Ali or Wilders. Didn't see the latter's film, but I recall the commotion pre-release of Wilders' film and reading about the unemotional reception in the U.K. (meaning it wasn't seen as that aggressive). Haven't read up since.

I think that we CAN understand both phenomena. Not in an ideological-, but in a psychological sense. But more important is the question, how to address feelings of Angst, marginalisation, tendency to "refouler" and real security and economic problems, of people who seek refuge behind the false prophets.
